New Warnings about Home and/or Group File System Space

Date Posted: October 16, 2015

ATTN – all PIs and delegates of groups who own home and/or group file system space

CHPC will be implementing a new set of automated messages starting next week (Oct 19) that will be sent to the PI and delegates of a group when the disk usage of their file system space has exceeded 90% full. Note that this only applies to groups who have purchased dedicated home or group space from CHPC.

We are implementing these messages as a response to the number of times when a given group’s space has filled up and in doing so impacted other groups whose space shares the fileserver that houses the space. These messages will also be sent to CHPC staff so that we can watch for the impact as file systems are filled.

There are three levels of messages:

  1. A WARNING status message when the file system reaches 90% full. This message will be sent at the point this threshold is crossed and then again weekly, on Monday mornings, as long as the usage still is at or above 90%.
  2. ALERT status message when the file system reaches 95% full. This message goes out when this threshold is crossed and then will be sent daily as long as the usage still is at or above 95%.
  3. CRITIAL status message when the file system reaches 99% full. This message goes out when this threshold is crossed and then will be sent daily as long as the usage still is at or above 99%.

As always, please let us know of any questions or concerns that you may have about this new policy by sending email to issues@chpc.utah.edu.
