CHPC Downtime - Wednesday October 12th, starting at 8am
Posted September 27th, 2016
As there are no power or networking outages scheduled, the interruption to services during this downtime will be minimal.
Scope of downtime:
- Firmware and OS updates will be applied to the fileservers and storage disk trays which support the group spaces. These updates will be done in a rolling fashion so any single file system will only be unavailable for a short period of time (about 15 minutes per file system).
- Firmware and OS updates will also be applied to the VM farm storage, both the general and the protected environment VM, again in a rolling fashion. There should be no disruption observed on the VMs.
- Migration of the database that supports CHPC functions such as accounts, allocation, usage etc to a new server. This will make these functions on the CHPC website unavailable. The migration will start at 10am and should be complete by about 2pm.
- Kachina and Swasey will be offline for updates starting at 8am.
- The compute clusters will remain up during the downtime and jobs started before 8am will continue to run as running jobs should handle the short outage of any of the file systems. However a reservation will be put in place so that no jobs will start during the downtime.
We anticipate that the downtime will be completed sometime in the afternoon.
After the downtime is complete we will notify users. Should anyone have issues connecting to CHPC resources after the downtime, we request that you restart your computer to see if that resolves the problem, and if not, please submit a ticket to issues@chpc.utah.edu
