CHPC has provisioned a new PE scratch space - /scratch/general/pe-nfs1

Posted: March 2nd, 2020

This new scratch file system will replace the existing /scratch/mammoth/serial space.  The new space is larger (298 TB vs the 161 TB of the mammoth scratch), and also has better performance.  It has been mounted on all of the redwood nodes (compute, interactive, dtns).

Users should transition any workloads that make use of the scratch file system to the use of this new space as quickly as possible.

Here is the timeline for this transition:

  • During the morning of  Friday, March 6 we will make the old /scratch/mammoth/serial read only
  • During the morning of  Friday, March 13 the /scratch/mammoth/serial will be unmounted from the PE compute resources
  • During the week of  March 16 the hardware /scratch/mammoth/serial will be reformatted and be used to expand the existing project space

Please let us know of any questions or concerns.
