Complete: Slurm upgrade scheduled for Tuesday, May 13

Posted by the CHPC team

We are planning to upgrade Slurm, the job scheduler, on Tuesday, May 13. This upgrade will briefly affect the availability of Slurm in both the Protected Environment (redwood) and the General Environment (granite, notchpeak, kingspeak, and lonepeak). We will put reservations on the clusters as we begin the upgrade. The reservations will prevent new jobs from starting; in other words, there will be a brief window during which job submission on redwood, granite, notchpeak, kingspeak, and lonepeak will not work. The upgrades in each environment will be staggered; it is likely that job submission in the Protected Environment will be affected in the morning, while job submission in the General Environment will be affected in the afternoon. We expect, however, that there will be no impact to running jobs. Once the upgrade is complete, we will remove the reservations, at which point Slurm will begin scheduling jobs again.
